Baoli

These sculptures draw inspiration from the ancient baolis—stepwells found across India that are as much spiritual sanctuaries as they are feats of architecture. Created during a time of personal stillness and inward reflection, these forms are my meditative response to the layered geometry, rhythm, and silence held within the depths of these spaces.

Stripped of ornamentation, these pieces offer a quiet interpretation of the baoli’s descent—a spatial gesture toward inner exploration and stillness. In their simplicity, they evoke the act of returning to oneself, much like walking down the stone steps of a stepwell, away from the noise of the world above, toward the still waters below.

These are not literal recreations, but rather abstracted, dimensional echoes of an architectural form that has always fascinated me—for its ability to hold water, time, and silence in perfect balance.
